Here a bit from the Indonesia trip report that contains a lot of travel information
about destinations, weather, etc... and some silly anecdotes about our journey too.
"Mowgli
[...] made us an interesting proposition: he would buy some fish
at the market and grill it for us. Then, we could sleep on the
beach, next to a bonfire which he and his family would lovingly
tend to."
"The girls, with their hair covered by
headscarves, asked for our autographs. So we signed their
schoolbooks, that they pressed to their chests, with joy. [...]
we felt like 18th century explorers."

Why?There are
at least 18000 reasons to go (as many as the number of islands
in the Indonesian archipelago). No time to list them all also
because I would go crazy, but, in short, the point is that
Indonesia boasts a diverse and spectacular nature, from
beautiful beaches (where you can relax, surf, snorkel and dive)
to active volcanoes. Outside bustling Bali, leaving the beaten
track is a real adventure that allows knowing a friendly and
interesting population.
When to go? The dry
season (May to September) is definitely a good time to avoid
storms and rains.
How? To get around you can
take advantage of the cheap flights and the cheap taxis. In
addition, you will always find someone willing to take you on a
guided trip for a very low price. A rental car is useful where
the traffic is not too stressful and it may allow venturing into
places unknown to mass tourism and organized travel itineraries.
How much? Life in Indonesia
is really cheap, if you don’t need luxury. Spending a couple of
weeks in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia (the cheapest) costs
much less than the intercontinental and domestic flights. In
Java, even in fancy hotels with swimming pool and all the
amenities a double room may cost about twenty Euros per night.
In Bali, however, a similar hotel could be very expensive.

Where? A travel itinerary that combines the two close islands of East Java and
Bali is a good idea: it allows admiring varied and spectacular
landscapes and the contrasts between the two islands.
Where else? ALombok boasts beautiful beaches, while the
wild Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi are covered by the jungle and
are untouched by man in some regions (you can really make an original travel itinerary there!). Moreover, there are
billions of small islands that are ideal for travelers who love
either relaxing on the beach or surfing, snorkeling and diving.
