Trekking in Tuscany

Siena and the surrounding countryside
Travel itineraries, hiking, kayaking and sailing in Italy and around the world

The beauty of trekking in Tuscany is that you always go through medieval villages, castles perched on top of the hills and old farms that make a pretty nice hiking route also full of architectural, artistic, cultural and historical interests. Siena is a good starting point to explore Tuscany.

In the Tuscan countryside there are a myriad of paths, but if you have to choose, the Crete Senesi are an excellent destination. The nature and the relaxing views of these places make trekking here something very pleasant.
The circular itinerary that departs from Montisi and touches Montelifré is one of the treks I recommend.

This trail allows you to admire the typical, beautiful Tuscan landscapes, to breathe fresh air in the nature, to admire a characteristic village (Montisi) as well as a castle and some picturesque farmhouses.

It is a half a day trek (which can be extended at will) and it follows generally comfortable paths and dirt roads.

You will see very natural landscapes and sometimes a goat or a horse.

The trekking itinerary runs just under the castle of Montelifré.

The Tuscan countryside is obviously full of wonderful views. After the trek between Montisi and Montelifré, for example, you can opt for a swim in the natural thermal pools of Bagni San Filippo. They are not really close, but, on the other hand, the hot water will regenerate you.

In these strange limestone waterfalls, some small pools of different temperature allows living a memorable experience.

Otherwise, you can enjoy some other typical Tuscan landscape, among hills, larches, green fields, yellows, lost farms and ... so much peace.
