Here a bit from the Scotland trip report that contains a lot of travel information
about destinations, weather, etc... and some silly anecdotes about our journey too.
"We arrived in a
secluded bay surrounded by high cliffs, with an old concrete
pier that jutted into the sea. We parked the Polo, in panoramic
position, and we admired the surrounding nature. Obviously
there was no one, apart from a lot of gulls and puffins…
actually, no, we were wrong. There were seals swimming close to
the shore. We didn’t expect to see them, and they didn’t expect
to see us. Even the Polo, grown up in Italy, was rather
surprised to be there. We all felt really at peace. Especially
the seals."

Why? The wild
landscapes of the Highlands fascinate the lonely traveler loving
a contemplative life. Edinburgh is a vibrant city. Castles are
the most common monuments, but for the adventurous tourist the
best attractions are cliffs and mountains, lakes and islands.
It's very exciting to get out of the planned travel itinerary and discover secluded natural wonders.
When? Summer
is the best time to visit Scotland, but do not expect to get a
tan: rain and cold winds are pretty normal also in this season.
How? If you
want to explore the Highlands you need a rental car. Obviously
driving is on the left: don’ worry if you have never tried it,
you will learn very quickly. (Otherwise, at the third roundabout
taken in the wrong direction, your driving license will be torn
apart, I'm afraid).
How much? It’s
cheap to reach Scotland by plane from Europe, thanks to the
low-cost airlines. A double room in a B&B should be about 80 €
per night. Dining is not expensive in pubs (15 euros for a good
meal) while restaurants are at least twice as expensive.

Where?
A more or less circular travel itinerary that includes Ullapool, the Highlands, St Andrews, Edinburgh and everything in the middle.
Other
destinations? The Isle of Skye and other islands off the
Scottish coast present wonderful views and, needless to say,
tranquillity and solitude.
