Take a trip to Chile means exploring a long five thousand kilometers land, from the tropics to the southern end of the American continent (the famous earth of fire). There are boundless spaces and a wide variety of landscapes.
Consider the size of the country, you must carefully select your travel itinerary based on your preferences. Take a look at the lower information on this page and the following travel diaries, which are rich in descriptions, photos, suggested destinations, prices and wages recommendations for your holidays.
The long journey route in Chile and Argentina is divided into three parts: Atacama, Central Chile and Patagonia. Click on the respective photos below to access the photo gallery and travel diary with other information.
The Atacama desert
not only desert around San Pedro de Atacama, but also colored mountains and volcanoes, salt and lagoon lakes, canyons and geysir. Unique landscapes.
The Central Chile between Santiago and Atacama, Chile features ocean beaches, Monti Alti Seimile meters and verdant valleys. A surprising travel itinerary.
Patagonia
in the southern part of Chile and Argentina, this charming region offers boundless spaces, rocky peaks and immense glaciers.
Why go? For landscapes, obviously. Indeed, once you have seen some photos, you should not even ask the question! An itinerary between Chile and Patagonia Argentina is a dream of open eyes, especially for lovers of trips in cars and focursionism in the most spectacular and unusual nature. Regions like Atacama and Patagonia are truly unique in the world.
When to go? Much depends on your travel itinerary. The months from December to March (the southern summer) are the most suitable, a good compromise between the different climates of Chile. Going into detail, Atacama is hot and dry all year (some shower between January and February might surprise you on 'plateau in the extreme north of Chile). The Patagonia, on the other hand, is always fresh, wet and windy, but in the southern winter the short days and the extreme cold becomes even more discouraging. Chile is much more sunny north of Santiago who in the south.
How to move? to those traveling alone it is worthwhile to move by public transport and tours (which abound in the main tourist resorts). However, the best solution for a truly rich holiday of experiences is the rental car, because it allows you to explore the landscapes in freedom, discovering independently of less tourist areas and often even more fascinating than those touched by mass by tours. Atacama and Patagonia are immense and wonderful regions in which it is easy to get out of the beaten trails, while in the central Chile the problem does not even arise because tourism is very little developed.
It is not necessary to have 4x4, even if it can be Pleasant, but a car is useful with a raised fund to travel the dirt roads with more tranquility (more information on roads and rental costs, specifications for places and itineraries, are written in travel diaries linked above). Obviously, you have to be good drivers, and above all wake up, because the distances are spacious: the holiday, lived like this, becomes almost a shipment to the adventure.
To rent a car here at the best prices for your travel itinerary I absolutely recommend by Search And book this link .
How much does it cost? Prices are relatively low: with 10 euros you can dine at the restaurant and a double room with a bathroom ranges from 25 to 50 euros per room (unless you pretend luxury hotels, of course). Petrol is economical: about a euro per liter, a figure that arouses the envy of us Italians!
keep in mind that in what it costs I take into account the whole journey ... from the middle for the airport of departure to Beverage passing through meals and souvenirs.

Where to go? The most amazing places we visited are those around San Pedro de Atacama: mountains, lagoons, geysir, deserts and canyons. Our itinerary also took us to the Parque Pan de Azucar, at the spectacular Nevado de Tres Cruces park, in the Elqui Valley, on the coast between Vina del Mar and Valparaiso, Santiago and near Cajon del Maipo. Patagonia is also incredible, a route from Punta Arenas to the Fitz Roy passing through Torres del Paine and Perito Moreno offers numerous joys. There are other deserving destinations between one attraction and another, but these were the main destinations of this wonderful journey.
Other destinations? There are many spectacular destinations and unwit streets between Chile and Argentine Patagonia. The list is long and can be worth several holidays: the highlands in the extreme north of Chile (to be joined to a trip to Bolivia, maybe), Lakes, Volcanoes and forests south of Santiago, the Carretera Austral that crosses the Andes and leads into Patagonia.
Don't miss this spectacular video (for landscapes), artistic (for music) and comic (for the main character).
