Lerici and Tellaro in canoe

A coast full of surprises, with splendid caves on the sea and picturesque villages
Travel itineraries, hiking, kayaking and sailing in Italy and in the world

Lerici , TellaRo And in general the whole coast from Magra to San Terenzo are a fantastic destination for a canoe trip. In the eastern end of Liguria, this stretch of coast is the last bulwark of the cliffs, the hidden coves, the Faraglioni and the caves before the Tuscan beaches.
Here under the map of this part of Liguria and the description of the Canoe itinerary.

An advice on How to visit This stretch of Coast Ligure: in addition to the normal kayak, the stand up paddle and the inflatable canoe are excellent solutions, as it is very comfortable for car transport. Attention because the distances on the map are in a straight line, while it is normal (indeed, very recommended) follow with the kayak or sup the sinuosities of the Ligurian coast with its bays and its rocks.

KAYAK in Liguria: from the lean to San Terenzo passing through Tellaro and Lerici; Map and distances

This canoe itinerary leaves from the final part of a river, the lean, to then coast the cliffs and beaches of Monte Marcello, Fiascherino, Tellaro and Lerici. Obviously you can also go in the opposite direction, but the solution is adopted by us is very recommended because a) is much easier to park on the lean on the sea and b) so it is a climax of increasingly beautiful landscapes and can be concluded with a dive and one Panoramic beer (which is not possible on the lean and, as far as the dip is concerned, well not recommended!).
The departure from the river is however fascinating because the environment is different from the common one for a canoe trip and stand up paddle: The Apuan Alps in the background, some reeds and many boats because the mouth of the lean is a river port.
The Magra river, between Liguria and Tuscany, is a good starting point for a canoe trip to Punta Corvo and Lerici
From mouth of lean to Punta Corvo the stretch to be paid with the kayak is short: in the background, the Apuan Alps
reached the mouth continues with the kayak towards Punta Corvo, skirting steep walls covered with very rich vegetation. Looking out behind, the panorama of nearby rocks lapped by clear water and apuanas in the background is really worthy.

Under Monte Marcello open spacious beaches, some reachable only from the sea, others even with steep paths that depart from the highway. Needless to say, the canoe is the best means of all! But I tell him the same. No, well, even the sup. A kayak also allows you to discover hidden coves, caves and ravines. Approaching Tellaro the beauty of the coast is drawn from the charm of the houses of the village perched over the sea.
After Punta Corvo, under Mount Marcello, the coast is rocky and jagged, but there are also some beaches
The picturesque fishing village of Tellaro is even more fascinating when it is reached by canoe
The country of Tellaro, therefore, nothing remains in the splendor of unspoiled nature, indeed adds interest. What is partly ruining the trip is the abundance of motor boats that travel this stretch of coast on summer weekends. Their waves are also a bit annoying for those who go to canoe and especially in stand up add them

After mooring the canoe in the tiny terlaro marina and briefly visited the country, you can leave at the time of the stretch of cost perhaps more surprising. After Tellaro in fact the coast becomes extremely jagged and some remarkable caves open, as well as Faraglioni and rocky coves surrounded by a really luxuriant vegetation.
Between Tellaro and Lerici there are some truly spectacular caves
A coast ideal for canoe exploration and to swim
When you get to Lerici the best has passed, without for this you want to diminish the little square and the castle of Lerici itself. Continuing to paddle you reach San Terenzo, where you can moor the canoe (on the beach or in the marina) and conclude the trip.
At this point you can go back to canoe or go somewhere to recover the car . In True Spirit Wild Trips, you need to be very curious and enjoyed during the canoe and sup trips, and therefore you certainly lost a lot of time and energy between beaches, baiette and caves. Recovering the machine somehow is therefore the best solution. There is a bus, very frequent, than from San Terenzo leads to Romito Magra. From here to Ameglia (or mouth of lean) there is another bus, which however does not run on holidays). In case, so the solutions are two: walking and hitchhiking.
Another possibility is to be previdential and start the canoe trip more upstream of Ameglia, precisely to a lean romito which is so easily reachable by bus from Lerici and San Terenzo. This adds a river stretch not particularly interesting, but still pleasant (in theory there should be enough water!).
Anyway, while someone recovering the car other canoeists can rinse the canoes and eventually deflate the sup inflatable and Enjoy San Terenzo and the view of Lerici, perhaps sipping a beer.

A good idea is to spend a few more days in the area: in case, Click here to compare hotels and find the most convenient accommodation. To spend less you must obviously move to the hinterland.
