Thailand and Laos: travel information

Destinations: Where to go to Thailand and Laos?
For a holiday in the south of Thailand, we offer very little tourist destinations: the islands of Ko Yao Noi and Ko Yao Yai, between Phuket and Krabi , they are still natural paradises. Visit the extraordinary Phang Nga Bay by canoe allows you to avoid the crowds of tourists. The Surin Islands are fantastic and tourism is quite limited by the few available facilities.
The classic travel itinerary in Laos, on the other hand, includes the Vientiane capital, the splendid landscapes of Vang Vieng and the charming Luang Prabang. You can push more up, up to the mountain villages of Nong Khwai. Obviously, for a journey to the longer Laos there would be much else.
Finally, in the center of Thailand, in addition to the exciting Bangkok you can visit nearby (within a radius of about two hundred kilometers) the fantastic Erawan waterfalls, the ruins of Ayutthaya, the Khao Yai park and Phimai ruins Khmer.

The climate: when to go to Thailand and Laos?
The most suitable period for a travel itinerary Similar to that in the map goes approximately from December to February. In March the temperatures begin to become too hot, then the monsoon begins (on the east coast of Thailand, on the other hand, winter is the rainy season). Public transport and car rental: How to move in Thailand and Laos?
Public transport, but often also private minibuses, they cost very little. For a travel itinerary in southern Thailand you can therefore travel with buses, minibuses and especially boats, because the strong pieces are the islands, which can also be explored by canoeing and motor.
in Laos, in my opinion the Ideal is to rent a car and walk along the mountain roads north of Luang Prabang; Obviously this is also the solution for a more adventurous holiday. Otherwise, buses and tours offer more "lens" and standard solutions.
in central Thailand, bus, minibus and tours are really convenient. For reasons of time and comfort, however, we rented a car, which obviously allowed us to be more flexible with our travel itinerary, see much more and stressing less between trading, bus schedules and more. Whoever has more time can very well use public transport, however.

Prices: How much to cost Thailand and Laos?
Internal flights remember those Ryanair: often 40-50 euros may be enough for a route. Already said public transport economy, the car in Nolo is rather cheap in Thailand (for example 30 euros per day), but can cost double in Laos. The economic guesthouses (in gender of discrete quality, except for Vientiane for what concerns us!) Range from 8 to 20 euros per night for a double room with bathroom, apart from Phuket that is more expensive (25-30 for one Double). In 21 days of vacation we spent 1400 euros each, including hotels, food and drinks, boat and canoe tours, souvenirs, internal flights, auto to Nolo, petrol ... everything, in short. And on this journey we didn't miss anything - well, we have avoided luxurious hotels and expensive restaurants, of course. To this figure you need to add right (small detail) the international flight from Italy, which from 500 euros off-season can also reach 700 at Christmas ... or much more, if you don't book in advance.
Keep a mind that in what it costs I take into account the whole journey ... from the medium to the airport of departure to the drink passing for meals and souvenirs.

Thailand and Laos: photos and travel diaries

The long travel itinerary in Thailand and Laos is divided into three parts: Southern beaches, central Thailand and Laos. We then add the link to the wonderful island of Koh Kood (visited during another journey).

The islands of Thailand
Phuket and Krabi are splendid but chaotic; The Paradisias Ko Yao Noi and Ko Yao Yai, in the bay of Phang Nga, and the Surin Islands instead offer magnificent deserted beaches.

Laos
Luang Prabang is beautiful, the landscapes of Vang Vieng and Nong Khiaw are impressive, and in traditional villages life flows with a smile.

Bangkok and the central Thailand
within the radius of 200km from the capital are Khmer ruins and natural parks, including the idyllic waterfalls of Erawan.

Koh Kood
A wild and quiet island, with the most beautiful beaches in Thailand, to explore in kayaks and scooters.
