Koh Kood, or Ko Kut, is one of the largest islands in Thailand, is located in the Gulf of the Siam, and is simply perfect for both a relaxing holiday on the beach and for a more adventurous journey for those who have Desire to explore a tropical paradise. In fact, you can relax on the white sand or start in canoe to explore the coast, you can stop in a tourist resort, or turn on the scooter looking for deserted beaches and fishing villages, and you can also trekking in the jungle up A of picturesque waterfalls. Diving, snorkeling and fishing trips complete the joys of a trip to Koh Kood!
The dry season in Koh Kood goes from late November to early May and even in the most "cold" months in December and January there are 30 degrees and water is at 27-28, so you can safely bathe all over Day for the delight of travelers and children's children. Strangely, even in the Christmas holidays there is no crowding of tourists. September and October are the months to avoid for the intense rains.
Compared to the rest of Thailand, Koh Kood certainly ranks among the most expensive islands for tourists, but everything is relative, obviously. If in fact the resorts in high season can ask you 80 euros for a double (or even 5000 euros per night in the most luxurious resort !!!) in guesthouses and in homestays in fishing villages you can find figures around 20 euros per night. The most characteristic restaurants will fill you with fresh fish and crustaceans for up to 10 euros each. The scooter rental runs from 200 to 350 baht per day (6-10 euros) and the kayak rental between 50 and 150 baht per hour.
First of all, to get to the island you have to take a ferry from Laem Sok pier, near Trat (price between 350 and 600 baht). To get to Trat there are buses (or even plane). On the way we went to Trat with a bus from Siem Reap, in Cambodia , while our "return" from Koh Kood to Bangkok was all organized Through boonsiri, which offers the bus more bus to honest prices.
Once you arrive at your own hotel/resort/guesthouse, you can move in scooters (or kayak!), while you can't rent cars or yes It can entrust public transport. There is no traffic (ferries for Koh Kood only bring people) so turning to the scooter is a pleasure.
Starting from a synthetic story of our 5-day vacation to Koh Kood, I present here the most beautiful beaches and places, adding advice and useful information.
Our accommodation was in the north, to Ao Savat, the fishing village where The ferries arrive: a truly picturesque village, but where you need to rent the scooter to go to the splendid beaches of the center-south of the island (in a quarter of an hour you reach the first paradisias expanse of white sand).
As in our 5-day vacation in Koh Kood we visited almost all the beaches (Koh Kood is full, but it's just a long 25 km long), I created a small map to show the points to visit both in scooters and kayaks. It is a very simple paper (and to navigate perhaps use Google Maps directly!), But it will be useful to understand what I write under about the most frequented beaches and those where we were alone and happy!
First of all, the tourist beaches and reachable from the road that travels the island are all on the west coast. The three main ones are Bao Bang, Klong Chao and Ao Tapao. Bao Bang is a splendid bay with white sand, palm trees and some bars; Along the rocky promontory to the north you can swim by admiring beautiful coral formations, parrot fish and other fish fauna.
At the center of the great Bay of Klong Chao there is a long beach, quite frequented but still beautiful. North of this, you can reach a delicious sandy island at the mouth of the river: here the water is incredibly transparent !!
South of Klong Chao's beach, there is a rocky promontory around which we swam for a long time admiring the fish and the panorama and then arriving at the semi-deserted beach of a resort. All the beaches of Thailand are in fact free access by law, so no one will tell you anything if in the course of your vacation you can swim on any beach.
The beach of Ao Tapao is very long, with a part with some bars and a wild part, in short, it's good for tourists and travelers of every taste. The water here seemed a little less idyllic, but it's a perfect place to admire the sunset with a cocktail or at peace under a palm.
Another long tourist beach is that of Ao Phrao, to the south: to walk it all on foot it will take half an hour! There are some bars/resorts and, in a corner, a fishing village, but for the rest it is a stretch of sand virtually empty. Apart from the length is in my opinion a little less fascinating than the others, but it is worth making us a visit. In the south of Koh Kood there are other nice beaches, which we have reached in kayaks but can also be visited in scooters.
In fact, in the course of our holiday we have traveled three itineraries in KAYAK: one from AO Phrao east until the promontory south of Bang Bao, one from the village of Klong Mard to the North Beach, and one from Ao Salat to what in the map I called "Secret beach", because in fact it does not have a known name.
The latter route is fascinating for vegetation and why no one is really attached !! Massimo Massimo a fisherman. The secret beach can only be deserted, but the currents take us a bit of plastic.
The most beautiful kayak interkey, however, was the one from the fishing village of Klong Mard to the North Beach, with which we reached without too much fatigue of the tongues of completely deserted sand and really dreamy, including these in the picture.
We then spotted a kayak ride around Ko Raet's islet, where there are a gigantic fish farm, such as squarks, and sculptures immersed in water full of corals, where snorkeling.
But the most beautiful beach not only of this itinerary, but of all our vacation, it was the final destination, the North Beach, perfect and deserted. Before you get there we passed in front of a resort from 5000 euros a night (without knowing it, we had tried to enter to go to the bar, but luckily they didn't allow it, saving us to escape the prices once you have!). It is located on one side of a large, wonderful bay also closed by the island of Ko never and on the bottom of this bay there is the North Beach, which was once a detached beach of the megaresort, then abandoned because it is not reachable by land (if I have understood). However, it was fantastic!
Each of our three kayak itineraries was between 12 and 15 kilometers of total length, a distance passable in half a day fairly quietly, with numerous bathrooms and a bit of short breaks relaxation. Who is less sporty can take longer or travel a little shorter distances.
As already anticipated, at Koh Kood there is more in addition to the beaches, and travelers generally really appreciate her waterfalls in the jungle. The most beautiful is the Klong Chao waterfall, which forms a wild pond in which to dive and cool off.
In the dry season the other waterfalls have little water, so they deserve less, while in the rainy season they offer wild places to dive.
Other destinations to visit in Koh Kood are the picturesque fishing villages. In addition to the already mentioned Ao Saviat to the north, there is, to the south, the splendid village of Palafitte by Ao Yai, where perhaps to burst fresh fish and crustaceans.
For those who get tired of staying at Koh Kood, a snorkeling boat trip can be a valid way to visit another island. The most beautiful corals and the most numerous fish are in Koh Rang, a marine park at an hour of motor boat from Koh Kood. Here snorkeling is not on par with the Red Sea or of certain Caribbean paradises, but it is still very fascinating.
In short, Koh Kood is an island to explore and discover, a paradise for the active traveler as well as for the eager tourist of relaxation. Anyone who wants to make sea still, can then visit the nearby Koh Chang, bigger but less equipped with dream beaches. Otherwise, you can combine KOH KOOD's pleasure to a trip to Bangkok and in central Thailand or in the neighbor Cambodia !!
