The beauty of Puglia as a tourist destination for a week of sea, perhaps in Salento , is well known. But in Puglia there is so much more to see, and in this region you can spend several holidays, or many weekends on a trip, always admiring new things, in all seasons.
Here is a destination we recommend:
- The gargano, beaches, cliffs and countries .
For everything else ... read below :)
Let's start from the capital, Bari , which is an unmissable destination thanks to the alleys of Bari Vecchia , as well as for the Basilica of San Nicola. A little further north there is Trani , with its cathedral overlooking the sea. A thirty km southeast of Bari, instead, there is polignano a mare , whose houses overlooking the cliffs are also famous for the impressive diving races. As if all this was not enough, in the hinterland the Caves of Castellana can give a speleological imprint to your travel itinerary.
In the northern part of Puglia, there is the peninsula of the Gargano , which we have accurately described here . It is a sensational tourist destination for both the sea and for the fantastic villages. Vico del Gargano is the most panoramic historical village, with its castle perched. On the coast, instead, Peschici , Rodi Garganico and above all Vieste are to be admired for the beautiful white houses on the sea and for the spectacular landscapes in the surroundings . Among the beaches to be seen absolutely, there are the bay of Zaiana, the Baia delle Zagare, with its rock arch, and the beach of Vignanotica, under white cliffs.
in front of the Gargano, there are the Tremiti Islands , reachable by ferry (they are less than 15 km off). Tremts are a natural paradise, a fantastic destination to do activities at sea but also for trekking.
Returning to the south of Bari, you arrive at Alberobello , which, like the whole Valle d'Itria , must be inserted into your travel itinerary to admire the famous Trulli . Another splendid city in the area is Ostuni, with its picturesque white village.
even further south there is the Salento , where in addition to diving into the crystal clear sea of the "Maldives" Apulian you have to see Lecce , rich in interesting monuments and Roman archaeological remains. In your itinerary for the holiday in Puglia you must also include the beautiful village of Otranto . The whole Adriatic coast is here dotted by fantastic bays, with caves, beaches and cliffs. On the ionic side, instead, there is the beautiful and famous Gallipoli , whose only defect is crowding in high season.
In addition to the sightseeing visits listed in the paragraph on "What to see", Puglia offers opportunities to do so many different activities during a holiday in Region, especially, obviously, by the sea!
The KAYAK and the Stand Up Paddle are indicant to visit the cliffs of the Gargano, especially in the southern part, as we described in the aforementioned page on the Gargano . Among the various impressive marine caves, the Grottata Grande Grande stands out for beauty, is one of the most magical places in Puglia.
When you raise the wind, you can instead go to kitesurf or windsurfing, especially along the Saves of the northern part of the Gargano.
In addition to the various sea and beach activities that can be done long The entire Puglia coast, the possibilities of trekking must not be underestimated, better outside the summer season. The main destinations are the Valle d'Itria, the Salento, the Tremiti Islands and the Gargano itself.
For food and wine, Puglia offers excellent farmhouses and various delicious local products: among the first mention due for the Orecchiette with Rapa or Ricotta peaks and for I Troccoli with Ciambotto Barese (a rich sea sauce). Several cheeses typical of the region, including the delicacies burrate . Many also meat and fish dishes, to be consumed with local olive oil. Among the most famous wines of Puglia there is the primitive of Manduria .
when to go and move to Puglia? The answer to these questions is linked to what you want to do and see. In general, the car is the most comfortable vehicle, although in Salento, in August, there is a risk of unchading in some tails or not to find parking.
(to rent a car here at the best prices For your travel itinerary I always advise Search and book at this link ).

Summer is the best time to enjoy the sea of the region, but the good Apulian climate allows you to avoid the very high season (from mid-July to late August ) And to travel in quieter periods. Trekking, food and wine and cities of art are fascinating in all seasons!
