Trekking in Liguria

Hiking itineraries from the sea to the mountains
Travel itineraries, hiking, kayaking and sailing in Italy and in the world

Liguria is one of the regions with the largest number of hiking itineraries: the paths go from the Ligurian Sea to the peaks of the Apennines and the Alps . For those who love trekking, these itineraries offer the possibility of inexhaustible satisfaction. Among the most beaten routes from the walkers there are the paths of Portofino and of the five lands , but it is easy to find excursions in less famous and equally spectacular locations.
in this Page we divide the paths into 5 areas:
- The Gulf of La Spezia
- Le Cinque Terre
- The bays of the levante between Levanto and Rapallo
- From Portofino to Genoa
- The Riviera di Ponente
Below you can find all the articles (with directions and photos) dedicated to the dozens of paths routes (in particular, the whole Ligurian coast of Levante, from Genoa to Tuscany, and the most beautiful features of that of Ponente).

Trekking a Portovenere, Liguria orientale The Gulf of La Spezia and Portovenere
The Gulf of La Spezia offers fantastic hiking itineraries on the Ligurian Sea. Starting from the eastern end of Liguria, on the border with Tuscany, the first paths are those between Tellaro, Punta Corvo e Montemarcello , then between Tillaro , Fiascherino and Lerici and finally in San Terenzo with the path for Blue bay and Punta Galera . Crossed the Gulf of La Spezia, we arrive on the island of Palmaria, the largest in Liguria, passable with a Astrumentive trail .
in front of the palmaria there is Portovenere, From which part The hiking itinerary to Monesteroli and Riomaggiore , an intense path among the most beautiful in Liguria (and the world!). Along this path you have various steep descents towards wild beaches: The puddle path of Punta Pineda , Il Magnifico Itinerary that descends to the sea from Campiglia in Schiara and perhaps even more resounding From Campiglia Al Persico and Tramonti . We have a further focus on the incredible Monesteroli here .

Trekking a Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Liguria trekking at the Cinque Terre
Once in Riomaggiore, trekking began in the Cinque Terre, so renowned as beautiful. For this reason, the paths on the sea between the Cinque Terre are very beaten, especially on spring and summer weekends, but they deserve anyway. And there are also less frequented paths.
For example, a long time traits of the route at a half coast between Riomaggiore, Manarola and Corniglia, Via Volastra you will find few other hikers ... but lots of amazing views.
From Corniglia you can go to Vernazza and Monterosso, as described here with photos and info , following the paid paths on the sea or the panoramic Via dei sanctuaries .

Trekking vicino a Moneglia, in Liguria orientale from Monterosso to Rapallo

On the coast you can follow an itinerary that ports From Monterosso to Levanto , and from here to Bonassola and framura along the path (but Also along the La Cyclopedonale ). Furthermore, from Bonassola you can climb up to the panoramic Monte Rossola or deviate a Montaretto and SCA beach . very panoramic, and little frequented, it is also the path from Deiva in Moneglia and riva trigoso , and recommended as well as the deviation that brings from Moneglia to Monte Incisa .
Riva Trigoso is Separate from Sestri Levante from the Punta Manara promontory, which can be traveled on a Fascinating path starting from the historic center of Sestri. Continuing west, you can walk From Sestri in Chiavari via lavagna , possibly passing from the super-panoramic Monte Capenardo . In the hinterland of Lavagna and Sestri Levante, there are beautiful paths in the Apennines towards the Monti Zatta and Pccile .
Once arrived in Chiavari, there is embarrassment of choice: you can walk the Path of the five towers between Chiavari and Leivi , or undertake the beautiful Excursions to the hill of the Grazie and Montallegro . From the sanctuary of Montallegro you go down to Rapallo.
As an alternative to the route to Montallegro, from Chiavari you can
Walk to Zoagli and then, from Zoagli, continue with The itinerary for Rapallo and Santa Margherita . Around Zoagli there is also the Ring trail of the five bell towers .
In this section of Liguria, even in the interior there are numerous interesting itineraries, splendid as well of Winter with snowshoes, for example in Val d'Aveto, whose paths let's talk here and in particular on the ridge of Monte Ramaceto o sul Mount Penna and Aiona .

Trekking da Portofino a Camogli, Liguria The promontory of Portofino and the paths to Genoa
The promontory of Portofino offers some of the most beautiful sea trails in Liguria. From Rapallo you can walk to about the paths of Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino and San Fruttuoso di Camogli . There are so many itineraries around Portofino, including the very panoramic Excursion to Cala degli Inglesi e Punta del Gassa .
Moving towards Ponente, you can do trekking from Camogli a recco passing through the Madonna di Caravaggio , and then continue on the Trails of Sori and Bogliasco up to Genoa Nervi , splendid places Although certainly more populous than the Portofino park. From Sori itself you can do two beautiful trips to the shrine of the Redeemer and Monte Santa Croce, or add her With this spectacular ring itinerary . Behind Genoa, instead, you need to admire Panoramas and tunnels between Monte Moro, Monte Bands and Laghetti Di Nervi .
Once arrived in Genoa, the company is completed: All Levante Liguria has been traveled!

Panorama da Capo Noli, Liguria The Ligurian Riviera di Ponente
between Genoa and Savona, immediately behind the coast, there is the Beigua park, with peaks over the a thousand meters almost overlooking the sea, as you can read about trekking at the faialo pass and monte reixa .
on the sea the western Riviera is flatter than that of Levante, but with some pearls including The trail from Varigotti to Noli , with the most spectacular views of the area and some remarkable caves. Even larger caves are found Along the paths of Finale Ligure , while the nearby path From Spotorno to Mount Mao is very sunny.
In the province of Imperia it is very panoramic the itinerary between Cervo and Andora who has one of the most beautiful villages in Liguria.
in the interior, the maritime alps offer high mountain views, like the spectacular Monte saccarello , the highest peak in Liguria, reachable with splendid trails, also of Winter with snowshoes.

Tips We need to slowly enjoy all the paths of the Ligurian Riviera, so do so many stages, with bathrooms, panoramic picnics and what you prefer. The important thing is to face the paths with the right preparation: apart from the obvious things like the suitable shoes, you must keep in mind that some paths are wonderful and steep. Read our specific pages on the walks to inform you in advance, and use paper maps and/or electronic maps like those made by users on the Maps.me app. The maps published by us are trivially carried out with Google Maps which, in satellite vision, is always useful for sighting traces of path.
