Traveling to Lanzarote

For a vacation in the strangest island of the Canaries, Lanzarote is the right destination, with its land created and transformed by volcanic eruptions, with its caves and its beaches. On this page we present some of the most fascinating destiny destinations of Lanzarote, which is also organized for tourism, so much to look like a beautiful natural park.

First of all, Lanzarote as well as by plane it is easily reachable in half an hour by Fuerteventura : it is therefore very comfortable to divide a week of travel between these two islands. To explore the variety of Lanzarote landscapes well and be free in your travel itinerary, I recommend renting a car, which you can Search and book at this link . Lanzarote is a lot about fifty kilometers, so there is no need to change accommodation to visit it all. From Lanzarote it is also possible to reach the nearby islet of La Graciosa, beautiful and quiet.

What to see in Lanzarote

Here we are at the main destinations to see a Lanzarote, with all the most interesting activities to do in a vacation on this wonderful island.
Let's start from the inside of Lanzarote, because it is a particular and shocking land, with hundreds of craters and long stretches of solidified magma. The main visit is that at the Timanfaya National Park, which contains some of the main and most spectacular craters.

Parco Timanfaya, Lanzarote
Timanfaya Park
Unfortunately, here at the Timanfaya you notice that Lanzarote is an incredible natural park that has been made a lot of a tourist playground. The Timanfaya can in fact be visited only with a coach ride (cost: 12 euros) or with a short tour in Dromedario.

I didn't try the second, but the coach ride is quite disappointing, since you are closed inside a bus; Even the photos are ugly, apart from the car parking where at least you can stretch your legs!

to hike in the Timanfaya park you need to book guided tours with months in advance: an almost impossible enterprise. >

On the other hand, outside the park of are other craters that can be visited on foot. Three trekking routes in the interior recommended and feasible independently (very easily if you have the Maps.me app) are:
- La Caldera Blanca and Caldereta, which leads to the top of a panoramic crater;
- El Cuervo, which brings through lava lands and then entering a crater;
- The Colorada mountain, which leads to a turned volcano.

Always remaining inside Lanzarote, it is very interesting to note as many dry walls have been built in the black land of the island to protect the few plants from the wind, especially the screws that grow low on the ground.
Cueva Los Verdes, Lanzarote
Cueva Los Verdes
Always inland, two long caves are spectacular: Cueva de los Verdes and the Jameos del Agua. Like other natural wonders on the island, these were enriched by the intervention of artists, including the famous Cesar Manrique, who treated him in particular lighting.
The Mirador del Rio, to the north, allows you to admire one spectacular panorama on the graciosa island; This mirador is very tourist and for a fee, but actually just climb up a wall to admire the same view for free.

Mirador del Rio
Usually I don't recommend illegality, but in this case I believe that climbs up both a moral duty, because charging a panorama from a hill seems excessive. Lanzarote is exaggeratedly touristy, but this does not mean that Mirador de Rio is something really spectacular !!

Also take into consideration that a multiple ticket allows you to see the attractions of Lanzarote as Cueva de los Verdes, Jameos del Agua, Mirador de Rio and Timanfaya Park saving something.
Lago Verde, Lanzarote
The green lake, or charco de los clicks
On the coasts, Lanzarote has many other interesting destinations. The green lake, or Charco de los Click in Spanish, near the pleasant sea town of El Gulf, is a strangely colored lagoon that a black beach divides from the ocean waves.
Playa Famara is a very long beach highly appreciated by lovers of surf and kite surfing. The town of Arrieta allows you to have lunch in panoramic restaurants on the ocean.

The south coast has some spectacular beaches, reachable by a dirt road by car and can be visited along a coastal path that allows you to admire beautiful views. In particular, a route walk to Playa Mujeres in Playa de Papagayo is short and highly recommended! Panoramas are sublime and the perfect beaches for sunbathing or for a bathroom.

Playa Papagayo
Lanzarote has a particular charm: for some it is the most beautiful island of the Canaries, others, including me, find them too touristy and Brulla with respect to the greenest and most varied islands like Tenerife or La Palma. It remains a splendid place, to visit on a holiday dedicated to incredible landscape and beaches. The famous Playa de Papagayo, in particular, is one of the most spectacular of the Canaries to take a bath.
