The Ionian Costa of Calabria is rich in beaches and crystal clear water, but is at the head of Rizzuta that the landscapes and the beauty of the beaches reach the best. Sand dunes, bright colors, cliffs, gullies, establishments, wild beaches and a strong Aragonese: here's how to discover everything.
The coast of Capo Rizzuto is about 35 km long, safeguarded by a protected marine area. The numerous beaches (some wider, more than seconds) are separated by strokes of rocks and cliffs. In some places the coast can be easily reached by car, in others you need a path (or go by sea, among other things, the boats here are very surprisingly here which makes the use of canoe or stand up paddle).
Some beaches are dedicated to guests of a couple of holiday villages, so the "Canoa" option is the best, in these cases. From east to west, these are the main beaches:
near Capo Colonna, small and panoramic beach ideal for snorkeling.
Beach of Gray sand, Seclusa (reachable by a small road), excellent example of the clear water and low backdrops (rich in crunches) that characterize Capo Rizzuto.
A wide expanse of reddish sand, with crystal clear water and easily accessible. (Between this and the marinella there are long traits of beautiful rocks and also the beach of a Valtur center).
For the sandy red dune and for the nuances of the sea. Also here, sand and rocks alternate on the bottom. From here we started for our ride in stand up paddle: if you have an Inflatable sup or kayak, it's a good idea (a staircase leads from the parking lot to the beach).
The cliff after the beach of the Curmo has some gullies (facing erosions in the clayey soil) and the usual low and beautiful backdrop. Before arriving at the next beach there is a stretch in which it is possible to make the "sludge" with the clay sand.
Sea on the sea easily!), This also characterized by red sand. (A tip: you arrive early in the morning to take the best places with both the car and on the beach - not so soon, but at least before 10-11).
After the beach of the horsepower other wild cliffs, after which you get to another red beach, this time dedicated to nudists and nice for numerous inflatables. Here two nudists took me to cancel a photo that I was taking to the landscape, thinking I want to immortalize their horrid Panzoni: it wasn't like that! (I don't like those who make libertarians do and then they become fascistelli for their convenient inventing senseless rules, like "prohibited take pictures").
A beautiful expanse of red sand under congillose (and a halt) gray cliffs. Fantastic place for a walk, a swim, a very short pause, but I wouldn't spend too many hours under these cliffs !!
Here there is also a wider stretch of beach, however, where you can feel comfortable relaxing. To get to the coast you have to get by sea or enter from one of the campsites. It's worth it, these are some of the most beautiful beaches in Calabria.
For those who prefer comfort and liveliness to the wild angles so far presented.
And then wild Mediterranean scrub. A large and cheap paid parking allows you to approach the beach, to which you arrive with a short path. The water is beautiful, the sandy bottom suitable for everyone, and with a lot of space it will be easy to find a corner everything for you even in the very high season.
At the castle and the nearby sandy expanses (with several bathing establishments) are often very crowded. In front of the fortress there are very busy bars for those looking for casino and aperitifs.
Bars and restaurants.
In Le Castella we went only to admire the fortress, at the Sovereto we instead walk and made the bathroom.
But above all, we have traveled in stand up paddle inflatable the section between the beach of the Curmo and Cape Bianco, of great satisfaction: it seems to fly over the crystal clear water!
In short, do not miss the promontory of Capo Rizzuto: only Tropea e Capo Vaticano (on the Tyrrhenian coast) can compete for the most beautiful beaches in Calabria. You can then read Here other recommended trips in Calabria and various travel information. Good vacation!
