Florence is The capital and the first destination a little discounted. To see there is just one of the most beautiful historical centers in the world, with Humanity treasures such as the Duomo and the Uffizi Gallery , which is a world-renowned museum. The River Arno crosses Florence (famous the Ponte Vecchio), but there are several other historical villages lying on its banks, in addition to Pisa which stands out in particular for the wonderful Piazza dei Miracoli , on which the Tower of Pisa is just one of the things to see.
The other clamorously beautiful city of Tuscany is Siena , with a very large medieval historic center where it is nice to get lost among the alleys. Among the architectural masterpieces of Siena to see certainly in one's peregrination there are the Duomo and Piazza del Campo , where the famous Palio takes place.
The Chianti and the hills del Senese offer splendid landscapes, between vineyards and corrugated fields. The picturesque medieval countries on the hills are many, here are some: Pienza, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Montefiorale, Montalcino, Poggibonsi, San Quirico, Montepulciano, Volterra, Chianciano ... All in the surroundings of Florence and Siena , they deserve many different trips, or at least a visit a few hours (see also below the things to do in a trip to Tuscany). A little further south, Cortona and Sansepolcro are splendid medieval villages in the Aretino , while pitigliano is unique For its perched position.
We wrote about Florence, Pisa and Siena, and of the many historical countries to see among the Tuscan hills, but there are other cities to mention among the most beautiful destinations: Lucca with its walls and the historic center and Arezzo . Near Lucca, the mountains and countries of the Garfagnana deserve a hike . The nearby and imposing Apuan Alps are a beautiful destination for trekking, and allow you to take a trip to the very interesting Carrara marble quarries.
Note also that the natural spas abound in Tuscany: The most spectacular ones are perhaps those of saturnia , but also the bathrooms san filippo do not joke!
in all this, we have not yet mentioned the Tuscan sea. The long coast is all to be seen: from the organized beaches of Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio , passing through the sandy beaches of the Maremma protected behind the Maritime pines, up to the clear waters under the cliffs of the Argentario , to visit maybe in kayak.
but despite the long coasts of continental Tuscany, the best is located on the islands of the Tuscan archipelago: the Elba , the largest, is rich in beaches and magnificent landscapes, Especially if you exit the most jokes of tourists; The lily is a gem easy to reach, while Capraia , more isolated, is an almost pristine paradise. The smaller islands, like Giannutri, Montecristo and La Gorgona , are more difficult to visit (are not open to mass tourism), but they are the background to the panoramas of the Tuscan archipelago.
Well , did we write everything? Absolutely not, actually. There are so many splendid villages that we have unfortunately have to neglect in this list, as well as beautiful sea traits with adorable villages, but you find something more in the paragraph on the activities to do in Tuscany.
Date all the things to see in Tuscany, you can imagine that there are also lots of activities to do. Let's start from the sea. The coasts of the region and its islands are in fact perfect for sailing and kayak. Here you can find the info for a ride of a few days in Canoe at the island of Elba . We then visited in kayak also The island of giglio , the crystallino Argentario promontory , the surprising Coast between Baratti and Piombino , the beautiful coast between Livorno and Castiglioncello . Other excursions very interesting in canoe or even better on the paths (but also in stand up paddle, by bike or on horseback) are those in Maremma park . A little further north, near Scarlino and Punta Ala , you can walk to the beautiful beach of Cala violina ).
Instead, by boat A sail we saw Capraia (and some small info is also found in our Travel diary of the trip to the sail from Liguria to Sicily .
Trekking is an activity to consider even in the interior, for example for these rides at Siena and in Val d'Orcia . Many other excursions can be carried out in the Tuscan hills (famous is the Via Francigena) or between the mountains as the aforementioned Apuan Alps.
In Tuscany you can also ski, in the areas of Abetone and the Monte Amiata b>.
For the Terme, the most famous places are Chianciano, Saturnia and Bagni San Filippo (in the last two there are also magnificent pudges all Open).
Finally, food and wine !! Tuscany is a paradise for this. There are lots of different dishes to taste, all sensational, some of which are mythical, like the Fiorentina , the caciucco di livorno , the truffle , the Lardo di Colonnata b> and the many first! The wines of Chianti and other Tuscan hills are very celebrated!
when to go and how to move to Tuscany? The answer to these questions is linked to what you want to do and see. If for the sea and the islands the summer is obviously the best season, for trips among the Tuscan hills the most beautiful colors are in spring and at the beginning of autumn, when the heat is not excessive. Even Tuscan cities would be to be seen when the heat is not excessive.
public transport is good for cities, but to visit the countryside and villages is much more comfortable.
(to rent here a ' Car at the best prices for your travel itinerary Always advice by Search and book at this link ).
For sea destinations it depends: public transport is fine on the coast, while ferries can lead to the Tuscan islands, to turn then with the means, by bike, by boat or canoe! In any case, it has a way to bring the car or the scooter by ferry, to see more places, while in the lily board your car can be feasible only out of season.

In general, there are much lower prices if you have the car to go to stay out of the main destinations.
