One in line to the other, Monte Penna, Monte Nero, Cantomoro and Aiona touch the 1700 meters of altitude and are spectacular for hiking with snowshoes, especially to trekking on the snow looking at the sea. Here is a summary of some beautiful itineraries on these mountains of the Ligurian Apennines.
Let's start from the pen: a typical starting point is from the pen barracks, about 1400 meters of altitude, from where you can immediately start walking in the beautiful feather forest, full of beech and fir. Here there are several paths: the one for Lake Pen is one of the most interesting.
The lake is located less than a kilometer from the barracks, but among the various itineraries in the woods you can snubble even for hours. However, it is more interesting to choose a panoramic destination. In this case we suggest walking towards the east side of the pen and especially up to the saddle between Mount Penna and Pennino: from here you have a spectacular view of the forest and the pen barracks.
To get there, the path always passes into the woods and climbed salt only in the last stretch, with two hundred meters in altitude. With lots of snow it is difficult, and there could also be an hour from the lake, while in mid-now summer conditions it is sufficient.
To get to top of the pen, this is not the right path in winter: with a lot of snow it is a Himalayan climb. Better to opt for the west side, simpler. From the east side, however, it is quickly reached by Monte Trevine, from which you can enjoy the sensational panorama on the pen in the first photo at the top, and from which the sea is also incorporated into the distance.
All these vicin peaks actually give great satisfaction! As I wrote, if from the pen forest you go to the west, it is easier to climb onto the top from that side. Furthermore, by doing so we joins the high street of the Ligurian Mountains that connects the pen with Monte Nero/Cantomoro and Aiona. In all, from Pen to Aiona, there are five panoramic kilometers in the ridge.
Monte Aiona does not actually a crest, but a large semi-flat peak at 1700 meters of altitude, with a North View Monti view and a South top from which splendid views of the sea.
Obviously all these trekking itineraries should be appreciated with different excursions. In addition to the pen through the Upper Via dei Monti Liguri, to get to the guy you can opt for the classic itinerary that rises from the beautiful lake of the blades.
This itinerary passes through the agora forest: throughout, from Lake Lame to the top of the guy, they are four kilometers and about 650 meters of height difference (two hours or even something more if there is a lot of snow).
Another itinerary from Lake of Lame brings instead in an hour to the waterfall of Ravezza, one of the highest in the area.
In short, in a few kilometers there are various splendid excursions. Often walking in the thick wood, especially around the pen, so the views are only enjoyed by the peaks ... and that panoramas !!
