Trekking at the Cinque Terre, admiring the Ligurian Sea, the picturesque villages and vineyards, is a wonderful experience. The "middle" path from Corniglia and Manarola is perhaps the most impressive one for landscapes and panoramas.
In fact there are several itineraries that connect the Cinque Terre (from west to east: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore), some of which are closed by landslide. In a somewhat inaccurate way, it can be said that at the bottom there is the coastal path ("blue trail", for a fee), halfway the path of the sanctuaries and at the top of the high way, as well as various itineraries that connect them . While between Monterosso and corniglia We described here a mix between the low path and the middle path, from Corniglia to Manarola (and then reomaggiore) we take precisely the route of the sanctuaries, also because The one at the bottom of the end of 2018 is closed and will remain longer.
From the beautiful village of Corniglia, perched on a cucazzolo in the middle of the sea, you need to make the directions for the itinerary 7a to Case Pianca and Mochia. This path behind the ancient church of San Pietro, typically Ligurian construction. As on the other paths of the area, you go up quickly in the woods, arriving early to enjoy spectacular views.
The views are even wider when, at a crossroads, the signs indicate the 6D path (ex 586) and flying on the right (while the 7th continues to rise towards houses pyers). We therefore take the 6D route for the flyshelf and we will soon walk to walk along ancient terraces overlooking the sea.
These terraces, besides having a long history and to show how hard it was cultivating in the Cinque Terre, are used to produce Vermentino and Sciacchetrà, the local wines of the Levante Riviera.
The 6D trail panoramic continues up to the flyshake, with considerable views even on Manarola. Forklift is a village perched at 330 meters above sea level, equipped with an ancient church and houses including slow life. Right in front of the church, a path descends to the sea and Manarola.
We lose quota quickly and at a certain point, a junction Report Manarola for the panoramic path: Take it to admire all the village for good.
From here we arrive at the Cemetery of Manarola and especially to the park that surrounds it, from which you can admire the village in all its splendor (and from this area would also stood the coastal path to Corniglia, which is closed for the various landslides of recent years). To get to Manarola from Corniglia we took about two and a half hours, without running (but without even going to slow motion, crawling, crawl or skip backwards on one foot, things that would have stretched the journey time).
In the park there are tables where you can make a picnic (in December there is no one, but in high season you will find everything full!). Failed to the village, you can then go looking for the path that continues to Riomaggiore. While a tunnel leads to the station and the street of love (closed until 2021), rising instead at the village you arrive at the start of the Manarola Riomaggiore route via Beccara. (To avoid lost you, use the intuition or search for Google Maps the Civic Via Rollandi 34: the path 531 part there in front of a staircase.).
Going up, you leave behind Manarola, but in December it is worth turning to admire the famous manarola crib, built on the terraces of a hill. It is one of the largest in the world and reaches the maximum of its charm when it is illuminated.
The staircase soon becomes a steep and friable path, rather challenging. Even in the event that is not December, it is worth turning around the Ligurian Sea panorama and the Cinque Terre coast, including Corniglia.
The path to Manarola to Riomaggiore rises truly very steep, almost without horizontal development, around 202 meters of the ridge of Costaello. Moreover, as the crow flies, Manarola and Riomaggiore are very close. The sea views repay fatigue.
The descent is also steep. The houses of Riomaggiore that can be seen from the path 531 are the least beautiful of the Cinque Terre (behind the historical village the cement was a little run away). On the other hand, you can admire the promontory of Montenero with at the top of the sanctuary of the same name (from which passes the wonderful Riomaggiore itinerary - Portovenere described here ).
One of the problems of the Cinque Terre is that certain paths are closed, others are reported as closed but then they are open, others still seem open but then they are closed (and sometimes this also applies to the provincial streets!) . In fact, arrived at Riomaggiore after a walk from Manarola, we found ourselves the road barred by a gate. We climbed up, but it wasn't very simple. The alternative was going back for about 20 minutes and take a detour. However, we arrived at Riomaggiore we could admire the wonderful fishing village.
From here, as well as continue towards Portovenere for the most unleashed walkers, you can take the train and go back to Corniglia (out of season, you can also use the car to reach one of the Cinque Terre countries, if you don't mind driving along narrow And winding narrow streets immersed in nature; then, however, to move between the villages, the train is the only sensible half ... in addition to the paths!).
In short, the Corniglia route - Manarola via flyer is really unmissable, And also Manarola - Riomaggiore via Beccara is recommended for experienced hikers.
This itinerary is one of the many trails between Genoa and Tuscany, all paths and all described to this Page on trekking in Liguria .
