The path that from Chiavari leads to Montallegro is not very attended but is one of the most fascinating in Liguria. Thanks to this trek, and to many others in the area, like the Hiking itineraries in the promontory of Portofino , you can truly appreciate the beauty of Liguria. (The other way is the Canoe , to live unique experiences!)
There are several points of access to the path from Chiavari to Montallegro. The most beautiful, even if the beginning doesn't seem promising, it is at the end of the sea walk of Chiavari, a west side. Following the road, in fact, the railway is drawn and a trail to anonymous appearance.
In reality, from here you go up to about twenty minutes to the Sanctuary of the Grazie, which offers a wonderful view. Then, with a steep but short ascent that starts right away from the sanctuary, you arrive at stone houses even more panoramic.
The hill of the thanks, on which the homonymous path passes, gives the opportunity to admire these views of Chiavari, Portofino and the Ligurian Sea while walking in olive groves.
From the trail of the graces the excursion to Montallegro continues to walk towards the west, towards Mount Telegraph and Zoagli, walking upstream of beautiful fractions like Sant'Andrea of Rovereto. The itinerary is well signposted, with the signs that, past the telegraph mountain, will indicate the direction of MONTE UNLIGHT and then of Montallegro, not before having adorned the bolico panorama of these hills on the sea again.
If you decide to "lose" the junction for Montallegro, finished in Zoagli, for another wonderful walk, between Creze, olive trees, panoramic churches and sea view houses. In some places you have to cross the street, but it's worth it, especially for the arrival on the beach of Zoagli.
But we are interested in the itinerary to Montallegro: to proceed towards the sanctuary, the path is teared into nature, away from traffic, in an alternation of wooded traits, panoramic points on the sea and views towards the interior of Liguria, which , in winter, they can suggest a high mountain trekking.
This, after all, is the beauty of Liguria, with panoramas ranging from the sea to the mountain in the bow of ... a second. Just turn, slightly, your head.
In this part you go up among the woods of the Mount Allap, from which you can also easily connect to the path between Chiavari and Leivi . Among the various parallel paths possible, all very close, there is also what you meet the beautiful church in the woods of the Madonnetta.
approaching Montallegro, the views move to the promontory of Portofino, and that panoramas!
Of these views we never get tired, and depending on the season and time the colors and light change. When you are not far from the sanctuary, you meet a picturesque building, the Pellegrino hotel, very scenic, where you can drink and eat something: it depends a lot from your step and your pauses, but 4 hours of trekking can be one reasonable duration to get here from Chiavari.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna di Montallegro stands imposing over Rapallo, at a share of 612 meters above sea level.
At this point, to return to Chiavari, if you don't want to repeat the forward itinerary, you can go down to Rapallo along a long and wide staircase (downhill, this part of the trek requires an hour) up to the station where to take Train or bus. This path is not as fascinating as that from Chiavari, but offers some beautiful views, especially at sunset.
If you want to stay in Rapallo or surroundings in view of other walks, perhaps in Portofino Click here to compare hotels and find the most convenient accommodation.
Alternatively, a cable car (not always open) connects Rapallo and Montallegro; Obviously, there is also the paved road, if you find a passage.
There are other routes to get to Montallegro: as well as from Rapallo or from the hills over Recco, you can start from Maxena (a fraction of Chiavari) or From Leivi. The path described here with Departure from Chiavari, as well as having the advantage of being comfortable with public transport, is in my opinion the most intense and fascinating, one of the most beautiful paths of Liguria.
As you can see from the map, there are so many different paths in the area, described here on the site. Furthermore, this itinerary is one of the many paths between Genoa and Tuscany, all paths and all described to this Page on the trekking in Liguria .
To travel the entire Riviera da West to the east, the previous stage is that of the Trekking in Portofino, between Camogli and Santa Margherita , while the next route leads from Chiavari in blackboard and Sestri Levante .
As for the Montallegro Chiavari trail, I just have to wish you a good trip!
