Punta Pineda and Punta Castagna

Two paths and a wild beach
Travel itineraries, hiking, kayaking and sailing in Italy and in the world

A few kilometers from the Cinque Terre, in the direction of Portovenere, is this spectacular ring trekking, difficult but that allows you to admire the deserted beach of Punta Castagna and the very special puddle pools, called Bozi, by Pinka Punta.

Pozze di Punta Pineda
One of the pink pools Pineda
These paths offer incredible panoramas on the Ligurian Sea, in a stretch of wild coastline. This is in fact one of the few itineraries that allow you to reach the crystal clear sea between the Cinque Terre and Portovenere (the others are the famous staircase of MONESTEROLI and the splendid trails Towards the Persico and the red and Sciara and the cantun .
Punta Pineda, tra Riomaggiore e Portovenere
The stretch of Coast Ligurian east of Punta Pineda, towards Portovenere
The starting point is along the SP370, the spectacular panoramic road that passes to the Cinque Terre. Those by car can park near the hotel The Borgo dei Campi, while those who use public transport must stretch the walk starting from the Riomaggiore station. Besides a bargain a ladder comes down in the fields.
Panorama verso Riomaggiore
Panorama from the Road of the Cinque Terre
At one point there is a crossroads: on the right the path carried out for Punta Castagna, while on the left goes to Punta Pineda, towards which you descend on a steep staircase, recommended only to those who have excellent balance and good life insurance .

We describe the itinerary indicating the descent from Pinka Pineda and the climb from Punta Castagna, but the opposite option is equivalent.
scalinata per Punta Pineda
The staircase for Pinka Punta
This descent does not take a long time, but particular attention must be paid, because the steps are narrow and in some places if it slips so much as far as I rock over the sea. 300 meters below the departure from the SP370 provincial road, you can do this to Points Points Pineda.
Pozze di Punta Pineda
On the Bozi di Pinka

Here you can walk on the rocks and reach this, with some balances, but nothing impossible, the beach located between Pinka Punta and Punta Castagna, made of bowls and crystal clear sea in summer (But we made trekking on a lugubrious day, while we had been several times with the sun in stand up paddle and canoe - splendid).
Spiaggia di Punta Pineda
The beach between Pinka Pinka and Punta Castagna
On the other side of the beach you can climb on the rocks (even in this case, nothing impossible) and thus reach the departure of the Punta Castagna path. The climb is similar to that of Pinka Pineda, perhaps slightly less slippery, in the middle of the Mediterranean scrub and with panoramas overlooking the sea.

Sentiero di Punta Castagna
Punta Chestagna trail
The path here was set up from a tourist structure of the area, which planted useful wooden signs. Between a wonderful view and another, you quickly take quota and with these 300 meters of climb (an hour, but also much less if it is trained) you arrive at the cultivated fields and then at the starting point.

This itinerary is one of the many trails between Genoa and Tuscany, all paths and all described to this Page on trekking in Liguria . Good trip !!
