Liguria has lots of paths that intersect by offering spectacular views, and this interesting hiking itinerary between Lavagna Cables, Monte Costello and the Capenardo is a great example: unpleasant places that offer sublime views of the Gulf of Tigullio And beyond. The departure is from the village of chalkboard cables.
The first part of the route coincides with a stretch of the path between Lavagna and Sestri Levante described here . In fact, from village cables you must immediately go up towards the Rocche di Sant'Anna, from which you can enjoy splendid views on Sestri Levante.
In twenty minutes you arrive at the splendid Doccata church of Sant'Anna, and immediately go up to the left towards Monte Costello and Mount Capenardo. Obviously, you can also start from Sestri, from which in a quarter of an hour you go up to the Rocche di Sant'Anna and rejoin this itinerary.
The climb to the Capenardo passes in the middle of low bushes, thus allowing you to observe beautiful views of Chiavari, Lavagna and Portofino.
One of the defects (indeed, the only one!) Of this hiking itinerary is that it is a famous path among mountain bike enthusiasts: when you hear about a bicycle approach, it is therefore good for you to move to the side, because the best descend At quite incurred speeds! Going up again, the path tightens in the middle of the beautiful Mediterranean vegetation.
When the path slips you arrive in a wooded stretch at Mount Costello, where we suddenly find ourselves in a bucolic and country landscape. The views open up on the hinterland of Sestri Levante and Apennines.
From here you go up to the ridge towards Mount Capenardo, with views both on the sea and on the wooded hills. An alternative is to get off the Monte Costello (which is at an altitude of 500 meters above sea) directly to cables following the signs for Sorlana and Barassi, shortening the itinerary but also losing an interesting part of the route. The path to the two fractions of Sorlana and Barassi is in fact less panoramic, mostly passing in the woods and then on the road.
Getting to Monte Costello takes about two hours walk from cables (or something less for the fastest): to walk up to the peak of Capenardo (share 693 meters) it takes another poor arrow, with the path that first passes into the woods. ..
... and then you get to the sea view and the wide views over the whole tigullio, well deserved after seven hundred meters in altitude, not too steep but constant and therefore in the end fairly tiring.
From Mount Capenardo he leaves the descent to Santa Giulia and Cavi, through a beautiful path in the woods, wild but with a surprisingly paved background for long traits, memory of when these hiking itineraries were transport routes for slate and paths for the peasants of the area . In autumn, here the chestnuts take fascinating colors. After a half-hour woods, splendid panoramas open on the Hill of Santa Giulia and on Sestri Levante.
Arriving on the meadows above the church of Santa Giulia, which is located at 250 meters above sea level, there are splendid views over the entire Gulf, up to the promontory of Portofino. An alternative route for these hills is the one described Here: From Lavagna to San Giacomo .
From the panoramic Church of Santa Giulia, you can go down both towards Lavagna and Towards Cables: In this case we take the "Creza", that is the paved path, which from the church descends to the east, first parallel to the road and then down between houses and olive groves . The itinerary (which coincides now again with the one from Lavagna in Sestri Levante ) is reported with the SL symbol (Liguria trail) and leads to cables in 45 minutes from the Church (and a couple of hours from the capenardo).
Thus this splendid ring trail concludes, of great satisfaction: a trip that requires 5 hours of walking and gives, with the necessary breaks to admire the view and refresh themselves, a beautiful day in nature, to be concluded by admiring the sea from the beach of cables of blackboard.
This itinerary is one of the many trails between Genoa and Tuscany, all paths and all described to this Page on trekking in Liguria . The cables path to the Capenardo is located on the aforementioned route between Sestri and Lavagna (and Chiavari). To travel the entire Riviera from West to East, the previous stage is the one between Zoagli e Chiavari , while the next route leads to Sestri Levante and Punta Manara . Good trips !!
