Finale Ligure is a small paradise for sports in nature: its medieval village is surrounded by hikers and bikers, from myriads of climbing walls and surprising caves (and on the sea there is also the long beach !). In this wonderful environment, we go to discover a short and beautiful itinerary: a path in the valley between Perronts and Montesordo which leads to the cave of Edera and to the Grotta della Pollera, between woods and vertical limestal walls.
The departure of this path can be directly from the center of Finale Borgo. From here, follow the itinerary of the five bell towers: immediately above the picturesque medieval village there is the Forte San Giovanni. After a few minutes, arrived at about 150 meters of altitude, he met Castel Gavone and a little further ahead there is the church of Sant'Eusebio. Who has the car and wants to save the hour of fatigue (between round trip) between the final village and this church, can also opt to park right at the church of Sant'Eusebi.
After the church, continue on a paved narrow road, which can also be passed by car but very little traffic. Shortly afterwards he passes alongside the wide weapon cave of Perri, and after a few more meters, at the church of Our Lady of Loreto, you can enjoy a splendid view over the final, with the view that reaches the sea.
From here continue on the pleasant road to the houses of Alta, where you can cross the torrent on a bridge to the right and take the path that is lying towards the woods and rocky walls.
About 710 meters of trail lead from high pounds to the cave of Enera, which is really special: a gigantic opening in the rocky wall, a kind of cylindrical cave from the broken roof.
In reality, immediately before reaching the cave you can choose between two parallel trails: one arrives at an opening up, from which you can admire the gigantic open cave. From here you can drop dangerously with a rope on the bottom of the cave.
From here you can also enjoy beautiful views of the wooded valley, on its rocky walls and high pound houses from which the hiking itinerary for the Eye cave.
As mentioned, in addition to the top trail there is a little lower one that comes instead to a dark cave, which apparently is separated from the cave of the Esta. Actually, going up this big cave, helping themselves with fixed ropes, you arrive at a narrow hole in the rock, from which it comes to the base of the grandiose open cave. This second solution is easier and less risky, but still requires steps not to be underestimated, as well as the use of a frontal torch.
The path of the five bell towers is the one passing in front of the low cave and then continues in the woods along the rocky wall of Montesordo. In the rock every so often you can see more smaller caves. When the woods mourns you can enjoy beautiful views over the fortress of Perti.
Continue for about half an hour until you reach a right deviation that leads to the Gigantic Grotta della Pollera. This dark cave, to visit with a torch, has a double opening as a great entrance.
The weapon Pollera (with the term weapon indicate the caves of the area) has a fifteen-meter high entry cavity and the part can be visited on foot is a hundred one. After the entrance, to the right, but you can go down on a muddy and slippery slope, venturing into the meanders of the mountain in various tunnels, walking for 500 meters and arriving 64 meters below, overcoming cramped cavities, water mirrors and rocks Franate, which is obviously recommended only to suitably equipped speleologists with rope, helmets and experience. But it is only fascinating to know that the Grotta della Pollera, final and Liguria in general possess these mysterious beauties!
The Grotta della Pollera as others in areas was inhabited since prehistory and in the past there were archaeological finds. Today we have to settle for the wonderful views. The return to the Church of Sant'Eusebio and Final Borgo can take place in various ways. You can immediately return to the paved road and continue along it, or you can undertake other beautiful trails in the woods, and if you have the whole day available there are various other caves to explore.
We had opted to dedicate the morning to the caves on this route only in the sunny part to then go instead in the afternoon to enjoy the sun full of the Spotboard to Monte Mao (Spotorno is a 20 minutes drive from the final).
