Compared to the many scenic hiking itineraries on Lake Garda, the path that from Sasso di Gargnano leads to the top Comer has something special. First of all, it passes from Valentine's Hermitage, and tell me if it is little.
Then, it is located in the middle of the western shore of the lake, which makes it more comfortable for those coming from the plain. Finally, it can be addressed both in the simplest variant of walking in the woods and in the more adventurous one of the steep climb between the rocks. In short, if you are looking for a nice panoramic trekking on Lake Garda, the path to the top Comer must be among the first of the list.
Gargnano is one of the many characteristic villages on Lake Garda. From here the Sasso path starts, but also an asphalt road that allows you to get to Sasso di Gargnano (and at the departure of the path that interests us) without striking. You can park at the beginning of the village.
There is a walk in the alley between the stone houses of Sasso di Gargnano (which is at an altitude of 550) and, following the white and red sign, you will soon reach the actual path, which initially runs of olive groves and trees From fruit with a beautiful panorama of Lake Garda behind.
The path begins to rise without having difficulties and the beautiful views follow each other. At one point, the signs at a junction indicate the top comer on the left and the Hermitage of Valentine's Day on the right, just 10 minutes away. Heading towards the hermitage is a great idea. A short stretch of descent into the woods, a pair of rocks a bit uncomfortable on the path (nothing of that!), Then you go up to a wooden door. The nice door and stairs opens in the woods lead to the hermitage.
In a wild nature of rocks and dense vegetation, this building on which the overwhelming wall is looming is really surprising. It gives a sense of peace, order and spirituality, and it is also a great point to smash from bread and salami (there is also the grid, if you need to cook).
Looking at the hermitage, on the right a path climbs towards the top Comer. Leaving the peaceful terrace on the lake, so go up along the harsh mountain. This part of the itinerary is not very simple (it is classified and - experienced hikers - and has metal ropes to help the climb). There is also the risk of falling stones. In short, some prefer to go back to the first described crossroads and then walk towards the top Comer passing through the simplest forest.
However, it must also be said that the difficult and exposed stretch to any discharges is very short, so if there is no group of people in front of you who drop everything, and if you are skilled and quick walkers, the right risk is Very low.
In short, we did not hesitate to undertake the steep and enjoyable climb between the rocks and in a hurry we reached the main path. Here a natural terrace on the lake offers a fantastic panorama.
From here, the path continues towards the top of Comer alternating walks in the woods to always fascinating panoramic points. An ideal period for this hiking itinerary is autumn, thanks to the lively colors of the leaves.
The summit of the Cima Comer is at 1279 meters of altitude and gives a wonderful view of much of Lake Garda (only the northernmost part remains hidden). The journey time from Sasso di Gargnano is about two hours, not counting the time dedicated to enjoying the Hermitage of Valentine's Day.
The descent can take place on the path of the first leg (avoiding the passage from the Hermitage), or in the interior, proceeding in the woods towards Briano. This option is less panoramic and slightly longer, but allows you to travel a new path in the middle of the chestnut trees, thus concluding a ring itinerary. It deserves mainly in autumn, for colors.
In Sasso di Gargnano this concludes a truly fantastic walk!
