From Campiglia to Perch and Tramonti

A deserted beach and the red cliffs before Portovenere
Travel itineraries, hiking, kayaking and sailing in Italy and in the world

The cliffs of Albana, in the area of Tramonti, between Riomaggiore and Portovenere, are among the most spectacular natural wonders of Liguria: the path described on this page is the only one that allows you to admire them throughout their splendor. It is a steep descent from Campiglia to the sea of the perch, with a little-known "Le Rosse" deviation which is really a pearl.

"Le Rosse", that is the cliffs of sunsets near Portovenere
The departure from Campiglia, already described in this regard of Sentiero for sciara , is very panoramic. Campiglia, in fact, is a village at 400 meters of altitude almost overlooking the sea. The path to follow initially is 528, a comfortable staircase that descends towards the sea and the beach of the perch, between the green and the cultivated fields.

This path is also fascinating for the few features and the occasional cable car that helps work in cultivated terraces. In addition to sensational views, this itinerary also offers an absolute peace, a bit like the other Marveliosa staircase on the sea of this stretch of coast, that of Monesteroli .

To cheer the descent towards the beach of the perch, at the end of winter and then in the spring, there is also the flowering of plants. As a whole Ligurian coast, even in this area, however, vegetation is mostly evergreen and the colors are turned on all year.

All the paths that descend to the sea between Riomaggiore and Portovenere have some steep and slightly franzo stretch. This itinerary from Campiglia Al Persico is perhaps the most comfortable, although more approaching the sea plus the landscape becomes rocky, up to arrival on the stony and long beach.

Once you have reached this unspoiled sea stretch between the Cinque Terre and Portovenere, all you have to go back (maybe after taking the sun and made a dip) along the same path, at least for the first part. If the descent from campiglia to the perch can request an hour, the climb is obviously more tiring and, if you don't want to sweat, slower.
As mentioned, however, we also propose a deviation to "Le Rosse", path that It can obviously be taken along the climb or downhill. Going up, this deviation is on the right, eastward, and starts at the first houses that meet the perch.

The beginning is not evident, it only looks like the edge in stones of a terrace, but then the track is clear, and between vegetation and occasional cultivated fields, then arrives to give unique views.
Il sentiero da Campiglia per le Rosse e i Tramonti
The narrow path on the coast from the perch to the reds: they begin to glimpse the cliffs of Muzzerone, the Palmaria and the tino
We are in the area of sunsets and the path to the red cliffs is narrower and slippery than the one for the perch, therefore we must pay particular attention. You come across some cottage, then, the view becomes wider: first the vat will be found, then the cliffs of the island of Palmaria, so they appear in all their grandparents the gray vertical walls of the Muzzerone and the red cliffs of sunsets .

A new panorama opens approaching the red cliffs of sunsets

At one point, you can see a larger building, a farm: in fact, a private road falls along the other hill. It is when you arrive in view of this building that the path is lost a little between the rocks while descending towards the sea.
By continuing to follow the tracks and always heading towards the sea and eastwards (ie in the direction of the Finally, red cliffs) you arrive at a rock that stretches over the sea, with an amazing view. It is a mini natural marina, with two boats resting on the rocks.

The path ends on this panoramic sea rock, overlooking sunsets, Muzzerone and Portovenere
From here, you can enjoy a sight that few know ... or, at least, who know only coming from the sea. Instead, a path exists! Maybe not for everyone, but almost. Respect it with love, obviously.
The return can take place on the same path. At one point, but a path diverts upwards: you can also choose this to rejoin the staircase 528 towards Campiglia.

The route from Campiglia to Persico and to the Rosses with return to Campiglia is absolutely not a long itinerary, although it can be tiring. The views, however ... really unique!
This itinerary is one of the many trails between Genoa and Tuscany, all paths and all described to this Trekking page in Liguria . Good trips !!
